Multi-Element Adventure
This is an interdisciplinary trip with a focus on navigation, route finding, and safety at sea, in caves, and in the mountains. There will also be discussions about geology, speleology, meteorology, and marine ecosystems. Additional course training will include caving techniques, technical rock climbing and alpinism, as well as man overboard and deep water rescue practices.
This course was designed as an introductory course for people who would like to learn more about the adventures that Croatia has to offer. It is a 8 day multi-element course that starts in the caves of the interior, spans the high Velebit mountains, and ends on the coast sailing on traditional Croatia fishing vessels from the island of Rab.
The first day begins with an orientation to Outward Bound, the group and the geography of the region. After the safety briefing we plan a trip to visit one of the many caves in Perušić near our base. This will be followed by a swim in the lake where we will have our camp. The following day, we will begin our hike to the sea. This will take about three days. The terrain is rugged and our packs may be heavy with food, but the trail is good and as soon as we reach the summit its all down hill straight to the Adriatic. On our way down we will stop at one of our favorite climbing sites and enjoy a day on the beautiful cliffs of the Velebit Mountains.
As we descend, the sea comes into view. when we get closer the excitement of getting out to into the sea builds more and more. We will be in the Adriatic on the tradition lateen rigged boats just like the ancient Croatian sailors have been sailing on for centuries. The last few days will be spent exploring the bays of the Croatian coast and many of its rocky islands. Swimming in the crystal clear water and learning how to handle the traditional boats of the Croatian coast should be one of the highlight of our trip. We are sure that you will love this program to receive more information about this program click HERE.
